Alicia had just come to school, and her insides were caught up in so many different feelings that she couldn't decide exactly which one was stronger. It was strange; she had been attending Hogwarts for some years, and she continued to be nervous every time she came back. She had yet to figure out any sort of explanation for this sensation, but she could always count on the lake to relax her. Everybody told her that she must have been born in water because of how much time she spent near it or in it. Since she had been experiencing her usual signs of nerves, Alicia had decided to take this opportunity to go down by the lake. She quickly threw on some tennis shoes and grabbed a bag that she kept her writing things in. Maybe the lake would inspire her today while it worked its calming effect on her.
Alicia was always amazed with the appearance of the grounds. Each year they seemed to extend farther just like the certainty of her future seemed to get farther away from her. Quickly she pushed that thought out of the way and tried to cast her mind to something else. For instance, she was determined to make friends this year. She had many friends in other countries and places, but she had very few here. She was never exactly sure why this was true, but she was determined to change it. Of course, sometimes she didn't mind being by herself. It gave her more time for scheming, planning, and doing various other activities that were hobbies for her. Still, it would be nice to meet somebody new to talk with. Besides, after this year there was only one more before she went out into the world. The last thing she wanted was to be without friends here.
As she walked, Alicia's brown hair swung gently in the breeze. It gave the effect of a halo looking appearance around her face. With one hand, she dispelled it and swept her hair in a ponytail. She continued walking and finally reached the edge of the lake. It's murky depths immediately began to calm her. Her eyes could discern nothing within it, but that didn't put her off. It was her favorite place to go, and she had always found it quite intriguing because it masked so much. It was much like herself in that aspect. Very few people could say that they knew her well because there were so many things that she hid inside her. The truth was that she was sort of scared to let anybody know her because she feared that one day they would not be there. That's how she had come to have such a tough exterior. It was a defense that she put up and could hardly seem to take down.
After a few moments of thought, Alicia sat down on the bank of the lake and took out a notebook from the bag she carried. Quickly she flipped open to where she had left off and poised a pen over the page. Almost as if working by itself, the pen started to dance across the page, pausing only for a second to switch to the next line. Before long, two whole pages had been written in this fashion, and Alicia stopped to read them over. She got ready to write again, but the inspiration had left her. In hope that it would come back, she simply set the two things aside and stared out at the lake again. What she hoped for now was that somebody would come for her to talk to. She did want a companion and hoped that her wish would be granted. Being alone was never fun no matter who you were or how you acted on the outside.
